As another Biomass plant rumbles through the planning process - this time in Trafford near Manchester, there are reports and suggestions that the UK should substantially change it's eating and farming habits and more biomass fuels should be grown.
The idea being that we could substantially cut carbon emissions associated with the keeping of livestock, including their droppings.
Greenfudge puts forward some ideas on how such a scheme might work, and the shift in people's habits required, drawing on a Ecologist report entitled 'Biomass Britain: do fields of energy crops spell an end to grazing livestock'.
And the size of the 'problem' is immense - 70% to 80% of land in the UK is used by the livestock industry. A near complete shift to growing biomass fuels would see a reduction of 60% to 70% in greenhouse gas emissions.
