Smart meter roll-out plans announced

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced their plans for the rolling out of smart meter installations in every home in the UK.

53 million meters will be installed in 30 million homes and businesses, providing an estimated net benefit to the UK of £7.3 billion over the next 20 years.

The Government intends the smart meters to play a key part in giving us more control over how we use energy and aid cutting energy waste and use.

Smart meters will also deliver real-time information to consumers on their energy usage, give suppliers access to accurate billing readings and allow energy networks to manage and plan for future power delivery.
