Apparently, the UK throws away around £12bn of edible food each year - that's five million tonnes of food, equivalent to £680 a year for a household with children.
From a 'renewable' point of view, one has to wonder at the amount of energy that was expended in growing, picking, packaging and cooking food that ended up in landfill.
To my mind there's little point in going to all the trouble of creating renewable energy in sufficient quantities if the power it produces is just going to be wasted on wasteful food production.
Perhaps the UK (as a whole) should conduct an energy efficiency study before deciding on the size of renewable installations required?
